Piercing in Winter. Yes or No?

One of the most common questions we answer daily is "Do you recommend piercing in winter/summer?". Since the colder days have arrived in full force, in this blog we will go through our opinions and a few tips on how to best enjoy fresh piercings during the winter season!

Ear Piercings

What we do most often and love the most; ears! So many different options, combinations, styling ideas... it's hard to choose favorites, and even harder is the thought that you might have to give up piercing them during the winter.

Hats, scarves, ski helmets... These are all little problems you will face during healing in colder weather. But with our advice, every piercing, regardless of the time of year, will heal perfectly!

  • Swelling and Temperature: During colder weather, piercings often swell less, but we warn that large temperature differences between outdoors and indoors can affect variations in swelling, and this is completely normal.
  • Clothing: The second thing we always mention is careful handling of all the 500 layers of clothing we all love to wrap ourselves in. Hats, scarves, jackets, coats... a little more attention needs to be paid to everything so as not to snag fresh piercings and create additional irritation that will complicate healing.
  • Helmets and Skiing: "Plan on time!". If you already have a winter trip planned where you know you will be wearing extra layers + a helmet, book your piercing appointment (especially for ears) at least a few weeks in advance so the piercing has enough time to pass the first stage of healing.
  • Downsizing: Also, it would be ideal to do the downsizing before the trip to minimize the possibility of snagging the piercing as much as possible so you can enjoy your vacation to the max!

After ears, navel piercings are the second most common concern regarding which season is ideal for piercing. Every season has its pluses and minuses, and here we will list the winter ones:

PLUSES:

  • Colder weather = less swelling
  • No worry about beach sand straying where it shouldn't
  • It's easier to get over avoiding pools in the winter period than in the summer
  • You will welcome summer ready and without redness to show off your piercing

MINUSES:

  • More layers of clothing creating pressure on the fresh piercing
  • It is always covered which can slightly prolong healing
  • You will have to avoid soaking in hot baths and spas

Oral Piercings

The same rules and advice apply to them as for the rest we listed. But what you have to be most careful about is the consumption of alcohol and intoxicating substances.

During holiday cheer and holidays, we all like to relax a little more with our loved ones in company with a few extra glasses. With fresh oral piercings, this can create additional problems because alcohol causes increased swelling.

Our recommendation is to take a complete break for the first week or two, and for a few weeks after that, do not overdo it and pay attention to drinking a little more water with alcohol so that the next morning you are beautiful and not swollen, and your piercings are happy!

Finally, "Piercing in winter?" Our answer is always "Yes!", and with our recommendations and advice, everything will go perfectly as always :)
